filmportal.de

filmportal.de is the central Internet platform for German film. Built and operated by the DFF, the portal offers verified data and detailed information on all German cinema productions and filmmakers – from the historical beginnings of the medium to current theatrical releases. Thousands of biographies and synopses as well as photos, videos, exclusive material and thematic worlds complete the constantly growing and editorially maintained content of the portal, which is based on the DFF’s filmographic database – the largest national filmography in Europe. In addition to comprehensive information on the public availability of films, filmportal.de also publishes the inventory catalog of German films, which for the first time provides information on the preservation of the national film heritage in archives.

As the most comprehensive, non-commercial and generally recognized reference source on German film on the Web, filmportal.de is also an indispensable component of numerous projects and initiatives in the fields of science and culture. These include the German Digital Library and the European Film Gateway. The Goethe-Institut and the German Film Academy are among the portal’s long-standing cooperation partners.

The portal’s technical and editorial operation is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and the State of Hesse. Further sponsors are the German Federal Film Board (FFA) and the Federal Initiative for Culture and Creative Industries.
