Masterclass: Jia Zhangke
16. February 2020 | 18:00 - 19:30

At the halfway point of the Lecture & Film series, director Jia Zhangke is giving personal insights into his work in a masterclass at the DFF cinema. The actress and protagonist of many of his films – including TIAN ZHÙDÌNG, which we screen on 6 February at the DFF cinema – Zhao Tao will also be a guest.
The masterclass will be held in Chinese with simultaneous translation into German.
Following the masterclass, at 8 pm, we will show FENG GUI LAI REN (The Boys from Fengkuei), a favourite film of Jia Zhangke. Zhangke, whose films STILL LIFE and THE WORLD have direct references to FENG GUI LAI REN, will introduce the film. A separate ticket must be purchased for this event.
Jia Zhangke: Cinema of Transformation
Within four decades, the People’s Republic of China has transformed itself at a breathtaking pace from an agrarian state into the world’s second largest highly technical economy: The films of Jia Zhangke, one of the most important Chinese directors of today, are seismograms of this transformation. Until July 2020, the Lecture & Film series will focus on Jia Zhangke’s work.
