The DFF regularly offers film-related photo workshops in collaboration with photographer Ragnar Knittel. The topics are based on specific films, genres or stylistic means.
The photo workshop “Filming Location Frankfurt: City Photography during and after the Catastrophe” is part of the program accompanying the exhibition CATASTROPHE. The participants will go in search of interesting locations for a “fictitious remake” of a classic disaster film. Frankfurt, with its skyline of striking skyscrapers, various train stations, bridges and harbors, offers almost optimal photo motifs for this.
Beforehand, film clips will provide inspiration: LAST MAN ON EARTH (1964), THE OMEGA MAN (1971) and WATERWORLD (1995) as well as SMOG (1973) and EARTHQUAKE (1974 and 2016) are just a few examples.
During the photo shoot, attempts will be made to see how, for example, an earthquake (vibrating, swaying, collapse of skyscrapers) can be visually realized using appropriate photographic techniques or how a special film look can be created.
For the finale on Sunday, a series of the best shots will be produced.
