Poster Archive

Collage of posters from the poster archive

The holdings of the poster archive comprise around 42,000 posters on approximately 20,000 films. The collection consists of film posters from the silent and early sound film era to the most recent productions. While the focus is on German film, the collections also contains German release posters of foreign films.

Part of the collection are posters by renowned graphic artists such as Josef Fenneker, Jan Lenica, Boris Streimann, Heinz Schulz-Neudamm, Hans Otto Wendt, Klaus Dill, Heinz Bonné, Hans Braun, Ernst Litter, Hans Hillmann, Fritz Fischer and Dorothea Fischer-Nosbisch. DFF also preserves original designs by the graphic artists Georg Schubert, Erich Meerwald and Bruno Rehak.

The collection is continuously expanded through contacts with film distributors and graphic artists, as well as through participation in special auctions, purchases of collections and donations. Archival work is not limited to securing and preserving originals, but also to making them available. Posters can be borrowed or reproductions made for scientific purposes, publications or exhibitions. Private users may also order poster reproductions.
