VISITING THE PAST – VON NEW YORK NACH ESSENHEIM

Jüdische Kulturwochen (Jewish Culture Weeks)

The DFF is participating in the Jewish Culture Weeks from 27 October to 17 November with a total of three documentary films, the first of which will be shown in October:

VISITING THE PAST – VON NEW YORK NACH ESSENHEIM

The film accompanies Joan Salomon from New York on a visit to Essenheim. Her Jewish family had to leave the village in Rheinhessen because of the hostilities they faced after the Nazis seized power. Her grandmother and her aunt died in the concentration camp. The film accompanies Salomon tracing her past in Essenheim. It shows the desire for a home and the search for one’s own origins, but also looks at the way those who had never left dealt with the past.
