KIKI – Kids & Cinema & the BEP

Children at DFF cinema

Film combines visual and performing arts, music and dance. They are all elementary for early education, supporting sensory perception of the self and the world. Children conquer the world through play and also through their artistic and creative activities. Aesthetic education at this age gives the child’s urge to be creative space, material and “food”. It strengthens the development of the self and orientation in the world. Cultural education must find its place in the family as well as in the daycare center in order to ensure that children are provided with a comprehensive foundation for cultural participation.

At the suggestion of the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration (HMSI), the DFF has developed the model project “KIKI – Kinder & Kino & der BEP”. “KIKI” focuses on cultural participation opportunities for all children and aims to support daycare centers in their activities in the area of early childhood cultural education. The focus is on the further training of pedagogical staff, on the development of concrete individual action concepts to strengthen early childhood education processes in dealing with the art form of film in the participating daycare centers, on the establishment of educational partnerships with regional cinemas, and on the involvement of parents or guardians.

From February 2020 to October 2022, the Lutherkirche daycare center in Fulda will participate in the project together with Cinestar Fulda, the Abenteuerland daycare center in Gelnhausen together with Kino Gelnhausen, and the Mainzer Krabben daycare center in Frankfurt together with Arthouse Kinos Frankfurt (Harmonie and Cinéma).

A project of the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum e.V., funded by the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration.
