Double Feature: A Season of Classic Films – Time Travels through Europe
Guest: Wim Wenders

On the occasion of the European Cultural Heritage Year 2018, Creative Europe MEDIA initiated the event series “A Season of Classic Films”. As part of the series, DFF, in cooperation with the Wim Wenders Foundation, will be screening Wenders’ recently digitized film LISBON STORY, which celebrated its premiere 25 years ago. DFF will present the film as a double feature together with Manoel de Oliveira’s VISITA OU MEMÓRIAS E CONFISSÕES.

“A Season of Classic Films” is part of the EU’s Digital4Culture strategy and started on 29 June 2019 at the Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna. Until this autumn the series will tour through 13 cities in Europe, with the aim of supporting communities that are enthusiastic about the restoration and preservation of films. 27 October is also UNESCO World Audiovisual Heritage Day, which emphasises the need to preserve and keep alive our common film heritage for future generations and aims to strengthen all those who dedicate themselves to this task with passion.

A sound engineer travels to Lisbon to help a director friend of his on the film set, but when he arrives his friend seems to have disappeared without a trace. LISBON STORY is many things at once: a tribute to cinema, a bow to the work of film sound engineers, to the city of Lisbon, to its music and its people. With a guest appearance by Manoel de Oliveira.
