As Germany’s oldest film festival for young audiences, LUCAS celebrates its 42nd edition from 19 to 26 September 2019. The festival presents current international filmmaking – feature films, documentaries, animated and experimental films – for children and young people from four years to 18plus.
In the competitions for the age groups 8+, 13+ and 16 + | Youngsters, films in carefully curated feature film series as well as in short film programmes (all of them German premieres) compete for the coveted LUCAS prizes. The film programme is complemented by classics from the history of film and other thematic series, some of which were curated by adolescents. During the festival week, there’s a special focus on film talks in which filmmakers from all over the world will enter into dialogue with the young audience.
At Lucas, young film fans are invited to participate in shaping the festival events in a variety of ways, e.g. by getting involved as presenters, festival reporters or film critics, as members of the jury or as curators.
