The eccentric Winfried pays a surprise visit to his hard-working daughter Ines in Bucharest, where she is currently working as a management consultant. The prankster father and the serious daughter don’t get on well with each other, and when Winfried with a wig and false teeth shows up in front of her work colleagues and pretends to be the life coach Toni Erdmann, things become awkward to say the least. With to fantastic main characters the film tells an unusual father-daughter story, which is sad and incredibly funny at the same time, and has rightfully won countless (international) awards.
