The young game designer Yaar was born in Israel and grew up in Germany – Judaism and the history of his grandparents are far away for him. His grandmother Rina survived the Plaszow concentration camp and had to hide from the Gestapo for months. She remains silent about her experiences. After an anti-Semitic attack, Yaar goes on the offensive and has an idea: with the computer game “Als Gott schlief” (When God Slept) he wants to address the Shoah in a way that history lessons are not able to do and to connect with the history of his grandmother. A Jewish girl and an SS-officer are protagonists of the computer game. What begins as a journey into the past quickly becomes a search for one’s own identity. The filmmakers Jana Matthes and Andrea Schramm are present.
