HÄNDE. DAS LEBEN UND DIE LIEBE EINES SANFTEN GESCHLECHTS was the first and only film by Stella F. Simon. It is a is a visually arresting and surreal masterpiece. Completed in 1928, the film was made in collaboration with Miklós Bándy and became known as an experimental film typical of the cinematic avant-garde of the 1920s. It explores the experience and representation of women. Simon draws on the experimental traditions of the international art, film, and photography movements of the 1920s to transform a simple melodramatic love story into an avant-garde feminist short film.
