Akerman films her mother: eating, sleeping, via Skype. Only later did she decide to make a film out of this material. Starting from NO HOME MOVIE, Akerman’s last film, Roelstraete’s lecture explores the themes of belonging and homelessness in the director’s work. Dieter Roelstraete is curator at the Neubauer Collegium of the University of Chicago. In 2012 he curated the monographic show Chantal Akerman: Too Far, Too Close at the M HKA in Antwerp.
