Chantal Akerman. Lecture by Chen Sheinberg about TOUTE UNE NUIT

The Inventor of Forms. The Cinema of Chantal Akerman

»Bodies in Motion in Spaces« Lecture by Chen Sheinberg (Tel Aviv)

24.01.2019 at the DFF cinema

TOUTE UNE NUIT is a film of body language in which small gestures of desire and loss are repeated and varied in stylized form in different pair constellations in different places of a nocturnal city.

Chen Sheinberg’s lecture explores how Chantal Akerman uses physical movement as a stylistic device. He reads the movement of groups of figures within the frame in different situations as a result of Akerman’s unique cinematic choreography. At the same time, the lecture devotes special attention to sound as an element of this choreography.

Chen Sheinberg is director, curator and lecturer in Tel Aviv. His cinematic works have been shown at the Whitechapel Gallery in London and at the Rotterdam and Oberhausen Festivals. For the Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv he curated film series on Hollywood and the avant-garde as well as a retrospective of the works of Chantal Akerman.
