On the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, the French string quartet Quatuor Ébène will this year focus exclusively on his work. In a series of concerts at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt it has been performing all of the composer’s string quartets since February. In March, we will show a documentary film about the quartet’s work.

“4” accompanies the French string quartet Quatuor Ébène on their tour through cities such as Florence, Siena, Salzburg and Berlin. More than the musicians’ stage appearances, the documentary film takes a look at what happens backstage: the meticulous preparatory work, the passionate exchange among the group and, last but not least, the reflection on their own work.
