DAS FREIWILLIGE JAHR
Jette has just graduated from high school and, at the request of her single father Urs, is now to go to Costa Rica for a voluntary social year. He does not want his daughter to be stuck in the West German province like he is. Jette, however, is torn between her childhood love for Mario and the desire to live up to her father’s expectations.

The series “Was tut sich – im deutschen Film” once a month highlights the latest productions of German cinema. In March, Henner Winckler presents his film DAS FREIWILLIGE JAHR, which premiered at the International Film Festival in Locarno and which he realised together with Ulrich Köhler.
Henner Winckler (born 1969 in Gießen) studied in Offenbach and Hamburg. His first two feature films KLASSENFAHRT and LUCY each had their premieres at the Berlinale. Ulrich Köhler (born 1969 in Marburg) directed acclaimed feature films such as MONTAG KOMMEN DIE FENSTER, SCHLAFKRANKHEIT and most recently IN MY ROOM.
