In the 18th century, a painter is commissioned to paint the portrait of a young woman on a Breton island for her future husband. After a hesitant introduction, the two women get to know each other better and, under the protection of their working relationship, experience a love that is as intense as it is condemned to be short-lived. With exquisitely photographed images and impressive actresses, this award-winning film opens up a decidedly female perspective on social constraints.
