28. January 2022 | 18:00 - 20:00

MISTER RADIO

Germany 1924. D: Nunzio Malasomma. Cast: Luciano Albertini, Evi Eva, Anna Gorilowa. 76 mins. DCP
With supporting film.
Music: New composition by Bernd Thewes

In Nunzio Malasomma’s ‘sensational film’ MISTER RADIO, Luciano Albertini plays a reclusive engineer living in the mountains, whose pioneering research into radio waves helped earn him the nickname ‘Mister Radio’, and whose latest invention can safely prevent railroad accidents. Big-city excursionists who have a climbing accident mean the end to his solitude: he falls in love with the daughter of his father’s murderer. Shot in Germany in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains near Rathen, Albertini’s stunts repeatedly reach dizzying heights, even for today’s viewers, in the words of the Film-Kurier of September 6, 1924: “With Albertini, all heaviness of matter is redeemed in playful lightness.”

The digitally restored film will be performed with new composition by Bernd Thewes, recorded by the MDR Symphony Orchestra condcuted by Frank Strobel, played from DCP.
