Sound Designers Rana Eid and Frank Kruse on LEVIATHAN

RAPTURE OF THE DEEP

Guests: Rana Eid and Frank Kruse on LEVIATHAN

Michael Kinzer in conversation with the sound designers Rana Eid and Frank Kruse (in English)

Recorded at the DFF cinema on August 4, 2022.

A fishing trawler in the North Atlantic on its way through the night. Waving waves, stormy wind, flocks of seagulls, the roar of machines and in between: working and exhausted human bodies, a few living and tons of dead fish. LEVIATHAN confronts us with the everyday life of deep-sea fishing, literally drawing us into it. As an experimental, artistic documentary, it opens up a post-anthropocentric perspective on life. The special sound design inspired Frank Kruse’s sound design for IN THE HEART OF THE SEA.

Rana Eid directed the film PANOPTIC (2017) and created the sound installation “Vortex” for the exhibition IM TIEFENRAUSCH.

Frank Kruse won this year’s BAFTA Award in the Best Sound category for IM WESTEN NICHTS NEUES and is nominated for an Oscar in 2023.
