The CCAJ project at the DFF is funded by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain in the project Kunstvoll.
The international, renowned film education program “Le Cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse” (CCAJ) enables students from 6 to 18 years of age worldwide to participate in a unique educational experience that combines film viewing, film analysis and the practice of filmmaking. Each school year focuses on a different theme.
Originally conceived by Nathalie Bourgeois and Alain Bergala in 1995 – the 100th anniversary of cinema – and housed at the Cinémathèque française in Paris, CCAJ has grown steadily. Today, the project thrives thanks to its extensive international network of cultural partners in 14 countries who are involved in its implementation in their respective countries or regions. It is worth visiting the official CCAJ website, which offers a wealth of interesting film education resources in three languages.
In the school year 2023/2024, the DFF participates in the program for the fifth time. Together with filmmaker Adrian Oeser and teacher Christian Dirksen, 16 students from the 9th and 10th grades of Frankfurt’s IGS Herder explore the cinematic question of “Filming the Other – the Documentary Gesture”.

In the fourth iteration in the school year 2022/2023, the project with the filmmaker Adrian Oeser was carried out at the IGS Herder in Frankfurt with 19 students from the 9th and 10th grade. Throughout the school year, the students dealt with the question of “centration and decentration in film”. The results and the short film can be viewed on the international blog. The international final event “À nous le cinéma” took place in June 2023 at the Caligari FilmBühne in Wiesbaden; insights are available on this page.
In the school year 2021/2022, 19 students from grades 9 and 10 of the IGS Herder in Frankfurt took part in a practical day with the film director Adrian Oeser. The theme was “motifs in film” (“motifs au cinéma”). See the results and short movie on the international blog.
In the school year 2020/2021, the project was carried out with filmmaker Cristina Diz at IGS Herder in Frankfurt with 17 9th and 10th grade students. The theme was ‘time in cinema’ (‘temps au cinéma’). See the results on the international blog.
The DFF participated in the project for the first time in the 2019/2020 school year. Together with the filmmaker Melanie Gärtner, the 9th grade students of the Schillerschule in Frankfurt focused on the topic “sensations in the cinema” (“sensation au cinéma”). Since the fall of 2019, the students had been making short film clips with the filmmaker as a learning exercise for the shooting of a final film, which was to be produced in the spring of 2020. Unfortunately, the project could not be completed as scheduled due to Covid-19.
