Switzerland 2018. D: Barbara Miller
Documentary film. 97 mins.

In her film, the Swiss filmmaker Barbara Miller illuminates in a captivating and revealing way how the sexual oppression of women as a global problem finds expression in the most diverse forms and affects women (and thus indirectly men) worldwide. Miller portrays five women from five different cultural backgrounds who, in various projects, proactively break the taboo of silence and shame that society and religious communities still impose on women today. Although they all pay a high price for their tireless commitment in the form of defamation, legal persecution and death threats, the film shows above all how willpower, patience and the belief that traditional structures can be overcome can bring about change.
